PP Møbler launches pp101 – an original Wegner chair from 1953
During 3daysofdesign, pp101 was unveiled – an original 1953 design by Hans J. Wegner, brought to life for the first time based on drawings from the archive.
Wegner designed the chair as a more simple counterpart to The Round Chair (1949), aiming for a more efficient production process – without compromising his characteristic attention to proportion and detail.
A key design feature is the horizontal, curved backrest, which clearly reflects Wegner’s aesthetic and technical design language from the period.

The discovery was made during a review of Wegner’s original drawings, which revealed that previously produced chairs with similar backrests did not actually match his drawings. This initiated the process of realising pp101 exactly as Wegner had intended – featuring a seat hand-woven from linen webbing and a distinctive front rail designed to maintain the webbings tension.
“We’ve been aware of the design for many years, but it wasn’t until we compared Wegner’s drawings with earlier versions of the chair that it became clear that pp101 had never been produced as he originally intended,” says Kasper Holst Pedersen, owner and Master of Craftsmen at PP Møbler.
pp101 is crafted in both oak and beech. The handwoven linen webbing seat has been developed specifically for this chair in collaboration with our french supplier, contributing to its light and balanced expression – with a focus on both comfort and functionality.
