Highly advanced workshop

At PP møbler we see technology as enhancing the craftsman’s field of skill. We do not limit ourselves from the constraints of industrial rationalization but we insist on exploring the boundaries of our craft.

Today our workshop is highly advanced and equipped with state of the art technology employing sophisticated techniques. Our criteria for implementing new technology has always been very clear. We will only adopt it if it will improve the quality of our product.

At PP Møbler all forms of upholstery is traditionally performed by hand. The job is always challenging, and demands dexterity, strong fingers, and a sense of colours and shapes – and sometimes also considerable imagination since not all drawings are clear as crystal.

Basically, the job consists of upholstering the chairs in fabric or leather. And often tasks need to be adapted to individual customer wishes.

Re-launching Wegner’s Teddy Bear Chair was an especially demanding task for the upholsterers. The idea was to make the chairs in complete correspondence with the original AP version. This meant that the upholsterers needed to re-visit some old principles of their trade, since each chair consists of a highly complex system of girths, springs, and strings.

Today our workshop is highly advanced and equipped with state of the art technology employing sophisticated techniques. Our criteria for implementing new technology has always been very clear. We will only adopt it if it will improve the quality of our product.

We always approach any constructional challenge from the perspective of a craftsman’s point of view and welcome every tool, technique, technology or field of expertise that can aid us in our search for artistic freedom and improve the longevity of our products.

For the final touch soap treatment is our preferred finish for bright Nordic hard woods such as oak, ash, beech and maple. This is a particularly Danish tradition that goes back several hundreds of years. Soap treated furniture are left with the natural surface of the wood and the patina of the surface will be beautiful and smooth.

Before the soap treatment the furniture is carefully sanded with fine grain sandpaper. As the wood is being washed with a solution of soap and water the grain of the wood will rise making the surface feel rough. Consequently, the surface is sanded again with even finer grain sandpaper, before it is packed.
